At the end of our session, I will cover your new tattoo(s) with either second skin or cling film. Remove cling film that same evening, remove second skin 2-4 days later in the shower. Once the covering is removed, carefully clean your fresh tattoo with a gentle soap and lukewarm water. Dry with a gentle patting motion and a clean towel, do not scrub or rub the tattoo.
While healing, your tattoo will become very dry and itchy. I recommend applying an unscented, gentle moisturiser (such as Aveeno, E45 or Vaseline) when it looks or feels dry - usually 1 - 3 times per day. Avoid over moisturising. Do not itch, scratch, pick at or exfoliate your tattoo until it is fully healed.
For the first 3 weeks, do not soak your tattoo in any body of water. The sea, swimming pools and bath tubs expose your fresh tattoo to germs and bacteria that drastically increase the risk of infection. Soaking also softens any scabs that may be forming, causing them to fall off sooner than necessary, which will lead to patchy healing. You can shower, just avoid prolonged contact between the water and new tattoo.
Avoid exposing your tattoo to direct sunlight for the first month. Keep your tattoo covered, preferably by loose fitting clothing. Do not apply sun cream to a fresh tattoo. Once your tattoos are fully healed (3-4 weeks), apply sun protection regularly to avoid premature ageing.
Once your tattoos are healed, after 3 - 4 weeks, to keep them looking crispy and saturated for as long as possible, you should be regularly exfoliating, moisturising and wearing sun protection/avoiding sun damage. All tattoos will spread and blur with age, but you can prevent this by taking good care of your skin.
